ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS PAGE
Toward more reliable PPG engines!
This page is reserved for a program we are forming to archive engine oil analysis, compression, acoustic signature, emissions, temperature, field defects, and other data over a broad spectrum of PPG engines.
Oil analysis baseline and periodic data as pilot-owners can afford is helpful.
Any other data on defects, repairs, overhaul times will be collected.
Primarily, we are looking to encourage use of cell phone and tablets for spectroscopic analysis of all engine acoustics. Then, matching that to known repair incidents, defects, engine times, etc.
In doing so, it becomes possible to identify developing engine problems well prior to more mechanical damage and inflight failure...from just your cell phone and free apps. This adds to cost savings and safety. In time, you'll be able to turn on your smart phone inflight, observe the noise spectrum of your paramotor and conclude: "That is the subtle sound of rod bearing failure." Or, "Hmm...my clutch seems to be failing." Some sounds you won't even hear, but do show up on the spectrometer.
We are looking to encourage a national program of data archiving and open-source sharing.
